OMAROSA: SitRoom Taping Draws Criticism

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Price also points out that the Situation Room wasn't an appropriate place for Kelly to have that conversation in the first place.
  • He probably wanted to have it there to ensure there would be no recordings.
  • Yet another example of Trump hiring "the best people."
  • This book is going to be a total sideshow.

Omarosa may have thought it was a good idea to tape the conversation in which White House Chief of Staff John Kelly effectively fired her, but that move has drawn widespread criticism.

The former White House staffer and Apprentice star recorded Kelly in the Situation Room as he suggested that she'd had some ethical lapses and should resign rather than be fired in disgrace. Staffers aren't permitted to bring cell phones or other recording devices into the Situation Room, the most secure room in the White House.

Both Democrats and Republicans have blasted Omarosa for the move. GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDonald tweeted, "Who in their right mind thinks it's appropriate to secretly record the White House chief of staff in the Situation Room?" And Ned Price, who spokesman of the National Security Council in the Obama administration, says he's "never heard of a more serious breach of protocol. Not only is it not typical, something like this is unprecedented."

Omarosa cites the recording in her new book Unhinged, which publishes tomorrow (Tuesday). (CBS News)
