One-Year-Old Boy Shot In The Head When Parents Started Fighting Over A Gun

A couple from Chicago was taken into custody after their one-year-old boy was shot in the head while they argued over a gun. Police said that Travis McCoy, 26, and Adriana Smith, 28, got into a domestic dispute and started fighting over the weapon. At some point during their fight, the gun discharged and a bullet ricocheted off the wall, striking the infant in the head.

His parents rushed him to the hospital where doctors saw the bullet did not penetrate his skull. They were able to stabilize the young child and he was transferred to another hospital in serious condition.

McCoy told officials that they were outside their home when the young boy was hit by a stray bullet. Authorities could not find any reports of shots fired near the couple's house and noticed that Smith and McCoy's stories did not match up.

McCoy and Smith were both taken into custody and charged with one misdemeanor count of child endangerment. McCoy was also charged with a felony count of filing a false complaint or report to authorities, and Smith was charged with a felony count of obstruction of justice for allegedly destroying evidence.
